DIRECTIONS
Spin the wheel and discuss the card it lands on. You must stay on topic by making a comment and asking a question about the topic. You're out if you can't come up with something and the other person gets to keep that topic card. Replace the card with a new topic on the wheel and spin again. Whoever has the most cards wins. Cards can be cashed in for rewards.
PREPARATIONUse the picture symbol cards and put a piece of velcro on the back. If you don't have these cards you can try and make your own. Pick eight topic cards. If your student is in the beginning stages of learning to stay on topic, pick cards of interest such as movies, books, music etc. If you're in the more advanced stages, make sure to throw in some topics that your student is not enamored with! (Don't forget to determine awards ahead with your student ahead of the game.)
WHAT YOU NEED: 1. The game spinner 2. Cards with Velcro
EXAMPLE OF A GAME
Student spins the spinner. The card lands on "TV"
Student: My favorite show is SpongeBob
Teacher: Me too. Who is your favorite character?
Student: I like SpongeBob the best. Do you also like him
Teacher: Yes and I love watching him blow bubbles. What do you think of Patrick Star?
Student: He always gets them into trouble. What do you think?
Teacher: I think he's really funny. (The teacher has trouble coming up with a question, so she is out)
The student keeps the card. A new card goes on the wheel. Repeat. Don't forget to let your student win a lot and allow him/her to cash their cards in for rewards at the end of the game.
