CREATIVE TEACHING WITH CONVERSATION STARTERS - HOME AND FAMILY
Goal: Teach students conversation skills about home and family life
Learn a teaching strategy that gets your child/student to do this in real life

DIRECTIONS
Role model a conversation from the conversation starter set by using small action figures or dolls.  Read the first conversation in the set, then take your dolls and let them role play the conversation.  While it's fresh in your student's mind, pick up the conversation starter set and begin the conversation you just role played. Make sure your student can see the prompts on each card to jump start his or her answers.  Don't forget a great reward at the end of the game.

PREPARATION
Use the Conversation Starters for Home and Family.  After you role play each conversation, flip the cards so that that your student can see the prompts as reminders. When you begin, make sure to make the conversations silly, entertaining or anything that will be of interest to your student.  An appropriate 4 step exchange equals a token.  And tokens can be cashed in for rewards.  (Don't forget to determine awards ahead with your student ahead of the game.)
WHAT YOU NEED:
1.  Conversation Starters - Home and Family
2.  Tokens

EXAMPLE OF A GAME
The teacher takes two figurines, picks a topic from the conversation starter set, and role plays it with the dolls/figures.  Example:
Doll 1:  What did you do this weekend?
Doll 2:  I went to the beach
Doll 1:  Who did you go with?
Doll 2:  I went with my family
Doll 1:  What did you do there?
Doll 2:  I swam in the sea
Doll 1:  What was your favorite part?
Doll 2:  When the life guard blew his whistle
The Teacher now takes the conversation starter set and begins the conversation
Teacher:  What did you do this weekend?
She flips the card so the student sees the prompt I ...
Teacher:  Who did you go with?
She flips the card so the student sees the prompt I went with ...  (The student fills in the blank)
The teacher continues in this manner, flipping the cards while her student participates in the conversation.
At the end of the game the student cashes in all his/her tokens for a reward.
